This short workshop with Gillian Cofsky encourages a deeper focus on posture and some upper body and arm movements of bellydance. Through discussing specific muscles being used in each part of a movement, you’ll experience a detailed posture check, posture exercises, and a deep breakdown of upper body dance movements.

Strength and awareness in the arms and upper body help to create a more fluid and present dancer. It’s often the arms and posture that distinguish between an experienced performer, and a dancer who is just starting out.

When focusing on deep, subtle movements in the upper body, the tendency often is for the shoulders and neck tense up, and to hold the breath. Be sure to keep breathing and consciously relax your neck muscles, letting the shoulders melt away from the ears at all times.
