Sorry Psy, 'Gangnam Style' is so last year and Baauer's 'Harlem Shake' is to blame. Thanks for tuning into to ClevverMusic for all your music news! Brooklyn DJ's 'Harlem Shake' song has reached the top of Billboard's Hot 100 chart this morning-- although the track has hardly been played on the radio! Lucky for Baauer, Billboard has recently changed their rating system and now takes into account both viral and stream-friendly tracks. They are incorporating all official videos on YouTube captured by Nielsen's streaming measurement, including VEVO, and user-generated clips with authorized audio into the Hot 100 chart formula.
The 'Harlem Shake' song was released on May 22 last year by the 23-year-old, but it wasn't until YouTube fans started posting videos of themselves dancing this month that it took off. This viral phenomenon has people and offices everywhere creating their own rendition, taking it to a new level every time. According to the Huffington Post, Baauer made it clear that the song has nothing to do with Harlem or the actual Harlem Shake dance from the 80's. Despite his clarification he has every viral video to thank for making it to the #1 spot. The 'Harlem Shake' knocked 'Thift Shop' by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis off the top spot this week. Be sure to check out Clevver's 'Harlem Shake' if you haven't already, there's a link right here! How do you guys feel about Billboard taking into account viral tracks? Have you created your own 'Harlem Shake' video yet? Leave your comments below and subscribe to our channel. Thank you so much for tuning, I'm Misty Kingma, now do the 'Harlem Shake.' Dun dun dun dun
